Roughly half of Gen Zers (50%) and Millennials (47%) think that society is not accepting enough of these individuals. Smaller shares of Gen Xers (39%), Boomers (36%) and those in the Silent Generation (32%) say the same. The impact of diversity is seen in many areas of the country including how Congress continues to become more diverse every year and the heavy emphasis on inclusivity in the workforce. Not only is iGen the most diverse yet, but this generation is also the most well-educated in terms of higher education, and tech-savvy. Gen Z’s background leads them to be an open-minded and future-oriented generation. They’re named Alpha — the first letter of the Greek alphabet — because these children are the first group born exclusively in the new century. Born between 2011 and 2025, they will be hitting the job market as entry-level part-timers in the coming years.

This may be partly because of their being mostly raised by Generation X parents, who were largely concerned with childhood safety. Another contributing factor could be that Gen Zers were growing up during the recession of 2007–09, during which they witnessed adults around them experiencing financial trouble and employment instability. Some researchers have suggested that the growing amount of time teens are spending on their mobile devices, and specifically on social media, is contributing to the growth in anxiety and depression among this group.

Gen Z Hispanics are less likely than Millennial Hispanics to be immigrants, and previous research has shown that second-generation Hispanic youth are less likely to drop out of high school and more likely to attend college than foreign-born Hispanic youth. There are already signs that the oldest Gen Zers have been particularly hard hit in the early weeks and months of the coronavirus crisis. Always connected to entertainment, information, social and professional networks, Gen Z is linked 24/7. A study from August 2021 revealed 91% of Gen Z were interested in switching jobs. Business openings and closures may have temporarily put Gen Z’s careers on hold, but recovery may mean getting back on track. They have found it difficult to look to parents for guidance precisely because their elders gen z meaning are themselves trying to understand this fast-changing world. Primarily the children of millennials, it will be interesting to see what this newest cohort brings to the workplace. Stress reduction and employee wellness translate to engagement and performance, but wellness is more than physical well-being. New attention focuses on mental health, stress reduction, and work/life balance. Offering services and resources to staff to help can be more than a benefit — it could be a lifeline. By listening carefully to what they are saying, we can appreciate the lessons they have to teach us.
Among 18- to 21-year-olds no longer in high school in 2018, 57% were enrolled in a two-year or four-year college. This compares with 52% among Millennials in 2003 and 43% among members of Gen X in 1987. A look at how Gen Z voters view the Trump presidency provides further insight into their political beliefs. A Pew Research Center survey conducted in January of this year found that about a quarter of registered voters ages 18 to 23 (22%) approved of how Donald Trump is handling his job as president, while about three-quarters disapproved (77%).

Don’t rely solely on your school’s financial aid office to match you with possible scholarships or grants. There are several search engines available to help locate scholarships that you may qualify for to help pay tuition and college costs. Taking time off to work full time and save up for tuition costs is another way to pay for college. You could also apply for the Federal Work-Study program, wherein you can work part time while attending school either part or full time. Even for 25-year-old (so the oldest) Gen Zers, purchasing a home may still be some years away. But it’s not too soon to get your finances under control, which will help you get a mortgage when the time comes.
This younger generation, despite being labeled apathetic and useless, will remind everyone what it really means to be American. Gen Z, armed with their smartphones and wits, are prepared to lead the revolution that will change this nation. Preparing for values-driven employees
They already show a high preference for regular employment rather than freelance or part-time work, which may come as a surprise compared to the attitude of millennials, for example. According to the survey, 42 percent of Gen Zers from 17 to 23 years old are already gainfully employed in either full- or part-time jobs or as freelance workers—a high percentage for people so young. In the coming weeks, we will be releasing demographic analyses that compare Millennials to previous generations at the same stage in their life cycle to see if the demographic, economic and household dynamics of Millennials continue to stand apart from their predecessors. In addition, we will build on our research on teens’ technology use by exploring the daily lives, aspirations and pressures today’s 13- to 17-year-olds face as they navigate the teenage years.
